Would you like to learn how to use a scythe? Then you've come to the right place!
My name is Janne Wester and I am the founder of Slåttergubben. I am passionate about biodiversity, and scything is a significant part of that. With 15 years of experience as a professional scyther and instructor, I have gained a lot of knowledge and expertise, which I am happy to share!
Here you will find all the information you need about our scything courses, including course dates and booking options further down the page. Welcome to the course!
Learning to mow with a properly adjusted and sharp scythe is for many a near-religious experience. Listen to what previous participants have to say about the course!
Is the course in English?

The scything courses at Slåttergubben are led by experienced scythers who currently work or have worked in our professional team, where we mow and rake approximately 50 hectares of meadows each year by hand.
During the courses, you will receive theoretical knowledge, plenty of practical exercises, and personal feedback. Wonderful camaraderie and the Swedish summer are, of course, included!

We will contact you to discuss equipment well in advance of the course start. Single-day courses always run from 09:30 to 17:00. During this time, we cover all aspects and provide personal feedback.

Is the course held in all weather conditions?
Yes! Most of the time, the weather is fine. However, some occasions may be warm, rainy, or cold. We always ensure that we can peen, sharpen, and have lunch under cover if needed. Technically, there are no issues with scything in the rain. Dress according to the weather!
Group Booking:
Do you, as a company, association, housing cooperative, authority, or church, want to arrange your own scything course? Read more here!
We arrange courses during the summer months May-August, in various locations in Sweden, as you can see on the map below. In September, we usually remove the courses from the site and then add the upcoming courses to the site sometime in the winter, December-March. These are only visible on the Swedish version of the page and the text is only availble in Swedish. For translation, you can use services like Google Translate or Chat GPT. If you have any further questions, you are of course welcome to contact us.
You can view all courses on our interactive map by clicking on the image to the right! ->
By clicking on the mapspots you will see a link to the course (usually!).
If a course is fully booked, it will say "sold out" above the image. If you have trouble ordering online, give us a call!
